Advancing inclusive &
equity-focused solutions for broad-scale environmental challenges
Science works better together
Co-led by Dr. Patricia Soranno and Dr. Kendra Spence Cheruvelil, the Bridge Lab at Michigan State University has been making discoveries, building research infrastructure, and fostering inclusive excellence since 2005.
We collaborate with other ecologists, computer scientists and statisticians, and social scientists to better understand ecological systems, to create new analytical approaches, and to improve academic and scientific cultures and practices.

Our team
Since its establishment in 2005, the Bridge Lab has cultivated an inclusive and collaborative community. Learn more about our multidisciplinary team here.
Ecology needs to happen at scale
We study lakes by the thousands, analyzing their physical, chemical, and biological properties over space and time. Our group is committed to rigorous data science, accessible open science, and effective team science through collaborations across fields.
The water systems we study cannot be separated from their surrounding natural and social systems. By approaching ecological challenges from multiple perspectives, we inform the management and conservation of freshwater resources and track how environmental impacts disproportionately affect some communities at the national scale.
